Who Can Benefit from Sedation?

Sedation can be an excellent option to reduce your anxiety during a dental appointment. There are various types of people who might benefit from sedation, including:

  • Those who want to receive multiple procedures in one visit
  • Those who have a low pain tolerance
  • Those who have anxiety
  • Those who have tooth sensitivity
  • Those who have difficulties sitting still for a long period of time
  • Those who have strong gag reflexes

We provide dental sedation on a case-by-case basis. Our dentist in Legacy will examine your current medications, allergies, and medical history prior to recommending a sedation option.

Sedation allows patients to feel calm during treatment. Patients should arrange a ride to and from our clinic if they are receiving oral or IV sedation as they can cause drowsiness afterward.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is a mild form of sedation that is administered through a breathing mask. Patients will remain conscious but feel more comfortable and relaxed. There are no side effects, and the sedation will wear off very quickly after.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation provides a more profound level of conscious relaxation. The sedation will be administered through a pill. This can be an excellent alternative for patients who have a fear of needles or want to be more relaxed.

IV Sedation

IV sedation will provide the deepest level of conscious relaxation. The sedation will be administered through an IV needle and will be constantly monitored by our staff.
